Winona (Packard) Wedeman, 82 of Olathe, Kan., passed away the morning of March 19, 2023 at the Olathe Hospice House. Born May 22,1940, to Phillip and Winona Packard, Winona spent her youth in and around Kansas City, Kan. After graduating from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Winona worked for a combined total of 20 years at the Department of Agriculture as a programmer. On Oct. 24, 1964, Winona married her beloved husband Pete, and they celebrated 43 years together prior to Pete's passing in 2008. While raising her children, Winona was also a homemaker spending many hours making quilts, sewing clothes and fixing odds and ends. She was an active member of Westport and Knox Presbyterian Churches for over 60 years. Her hobbies included league bowling, playing cards, embroidery, and spoiling her grandchildren. Winona was an active member of the Top Railers square dance club for 29 years, and she especially enjoyed the gatherings at Pomona Lake. Perhaps one of her most treasured activities began in June of 1991, when she became "Grandma" to the first of six grandchildren and later five great-grandchildren. Grandma cherished her role in the lives of her grandkids and great-grandkids, always ready with hugs, cookies, and a story. She was a quiet and loving woman, who enjoyed sewing, art, fabric, and telling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren stories about her youth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, in 2008 and her daughter-in-law Kristine Wedeman in 2013.
Winona is survived by her daughter Beth and son-in-law Bryan Howard; son Chris and daughter-in-law Rebecca Batz; and grandchildren, Phillip, Savannah, Emily, Kathryn and Colin Wedeman, and Tommy and Jason Howard; and great grandchildren, Jacob, Americus, Nathaniel, Joey, and Kaison.
A memorial service will be held Friday March 24th, at 1 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 9595 W. 95th St., Overland Park. Graveside services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 13909 Black bob, Olathe, Kan.
