William Gray Shoffey

August 10, 1942 — December 3, 2016

William Shoffey was born August 10, 1942, in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Goldia Gray and William S. Shoffey. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at home in Leawood, Kansas surrounded by his family, including his beautiful 99 year old mother and his sister. Bill worked for Moore Business Forms, beginning in Fort Smith and ending in Kansas City for 20 plus years. He left Moore in the late 80's to venture out and find success on his own.

Bill loved cooking and feeding people, fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards. He was preceded in death by his father, and leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Genie Durden Shoffey, his mother, Goldia and sister Nancy Shoffey Karrant of Fort Smith, his son Jason Shoffey (Rose) Fort Smith, daughters Jennifer Shoffey Forsythe (Jamie) Columbus, Ohio, Gray Shoffey McBay (Matt) McLean, VA, Amber Shoffey, Chicago, and two stepchildren, Kelly Hicks (Mitzie) and Rachel Hicks Sims of Fort Smith. His grandchildren, Brooklyn Medlock, Hunter Shoffey, Chase Forsythe, Lincoln and Madelyn McBay, and step-grandchildren, Hampton and Ross Hicks, and Bryant Sims. He had two great grandchildren and nieces and nephews, Indra Karrant Russell, Jonathan Karrant, Robert Durden II, Marilyn Durden Guion, Brandon Durden, Michaelann Durden, Rey Durden and Georgia Durden.

was diagnosed in early March with Stage IV cancer of unknown origin, many bones were already destroyed and he was no longer able to walk. He spent many months at the Forum of Overland Park in skilled care, fighting to beat the disease. He requested cremation with no formal funeral, and would have been so pleased with the unexpected intimate service provided by Chaplain Allen Spight of Grace Hospice in the hours following his passing. It was a sweet and meaningful experience filled with tears and lots of laughter. Laughter was such a big part of his life, as he was the constant joker and always provided a laugh or two no matter what was happening.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial tributes be sent to Harvester's (community food bank) Harvester's, PO Box 412233, Kansas City, MO 64141. Please note on check "William Shoffey Memorial" or donate online at harvesters.org by clicking Give Money and fill out the form.

We want to give special thanks to the staff at the Forum who cared for him so well and gave him a lot of love and attention. Also, our thanks to the kind and compassionate staff of Grace Hospice who helped us immeasurably during the last days of his life.
