William Lynn Knoeppel, 74, of Olathe, passed away on November 4, 2023 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
He was born on January 30, 1949 to Albert and Betty (Pierce) Knoeppel at Ottawa, KS.
Bill enjoyed working as a Conductor for BNSF Railroad for 47 years, retiring in September of 2015. He also enjoyed working on his own garden railroad train set at home. He loved conversing with his bird friends as he worked.
On July 31,1985, he married Mary Lee Knoeppel (Bullington) in Emporia, KS. In September of 1990 they moved to the Kansas City area, settling in Olathe, Kansas. He was a member of Jubilee Family Church, where he served faithfully in his uniquely humble and willing manner, always willing to help with whatever needed done. Bill was known as 'Shofar Bill' to many in our church family. He could always be seen blowing the shofar (a ram's horn) at the entrance to the church before services, as he greeted people coming in.
William is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his sons, Robert (Lisa) Knoeppel of Olathe, and Russell (Brooke)Knoeppel of Sioux Falls, SD, his stepdaughter, Rachael Stacey of the home, and grandchildren, Damon Walker, Stephen Samuel Cross, Ashley Walker and partner, Angel Rodriguez; Andrew Knoeppel, Katelyn Knoeppel, Logan Knoeppel, Lacey Knoeppel, Lexi Knoeppel and Lia Knoeppel. Also great-grandchildren, Angel, Romeo, Mia, Arthur and Ava Rodriguez.
He is also survived by his brother, Robert K (Connie) Knoeppel of Olathe, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Betty Knoeppel.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30am, on November 14, 2023, at Jubilee Church, with Pastor Dan Crevier officiating.
