William Craig Henwood, 47, of Olathe, KS passed away on March 9, 2019 while enjoying what he loved doing the most- racing his bicycle.
Craig was born on April 26, 1971 to William and Kristine (Stromberg) Henwood in Salt Lake City, UT, but he was a Colorado boy at heart.
Craig worked as an Air Traffic Controller for 28 years, serving in this elite capacity both in the Air Force as well as Kansas City Center for the FAA.
On February 3, 2019, he married the love of his life, Angela Polito.
Craig with his dear friend Jeff Peters founded the 3 Feet Cycling team, and Craig served as President and Jeff was VP. Craig was a pillar in the cycling community. They are an advocate team for safe cycling and education of the law for 3 feet of distance between vehicles and a cyclist. His leadership and contagious passion for the sport and all cyclists became his legacy of success that will affect the Kansas cycling community forever.
Craig was an incredible father, a man of great generosity, and a laugh that will ring forever in the hearts of all who love him.
Craig is survived by his loving wife, Angela, his proud and loving parents Kristine "She-Ra" and Stephen Johnson, his children and lights of his life, son Joey Vecchione, and daughters Krystiana and Abby. He will forever be missed and revered as the oldest brother of Jack (Tamara) McTavish, Amanda (Erik Basner) McTavish, and Karli (Chris) Decker, and 7 nieces and nephews, Kailee, Lexi, Kade, Abby, Olivia, Brinkley, and a baby boy due in May, who all adored Uncle Craigy.
Craig earned the nickname "Hemi" from his incredible cycling success, and his "Hemi engine".
There will be a race dedicated to him, that will forever be called "The Hemi".
