William Charles Chansky, 79, of Olathe, died November 9, 2013 of pulmonary fibrosis at Kansas City Hospice House following a lengthy stay at the KU Medical Center.
The second son of Clara Hradek and Ralph P. Chansky, he was born in Solon, Iowa on February 12, 1934. He graduated from Solon High School and was employed at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids before joining the Army and was stationed in Panama, 1954-1956. Following his discharge, he attended electronics school in Kansas City and was employed at The University of Kansas Medical Center for 37.5 years, retiring in 1998.
An avid golfer, Bill played key courses across the country and especially at Overland Park and Falcon Ridge Golf Course, where he was marshal for a number of years. Most afternoons, he occupied a stool at the Golf, M.D. He was a Chiefs season ticket holder for many years and enjoyed sports, especially Jayhawk basketball. Bill was a mall walker and entertained the coffee group at Oak Park. His great sense of humor was an outstanding trait.
Bill was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W. 143rd St., Olathe, where his memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 13. He willed his body to the KU School of Medicine. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #153, Olathe.
Bill is survived by his wife, Priscilla "Pris"; his son, Darin and children Bennett and Alana; and son Brian and wife, Dr. Rebecca Burfeind; step-son Rusty Owings and wife, Rochelle; grandchildren, Audrey Pendergraft and Liam Owings, and his dog, Rodney, with him to the end.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Ralph.
