William F. Diamond Jr.

August 3, 1943 — January 14, 2020

William "Bill" Diamond, 76, of Olathe, passed away on January 14, 2020. He was born on August 3, 1943 to Bill and Paulynne Diamond in Welch, WV. He was a much loved eldest son and big brother.

Raised in a coal mining town, he would eventually become a world traveler, first during his service in the United States Air Force and then later in life with his immediate and extended family, and most particularly with his wife.

As a father of a young family living in Alaska, he relished camping, fishing and many family adventures.

A knowledgeable computer enthusiast and database developer, he shared his knowledge with many people. He was the "IT guy" to call for many, including his father in Florida and other retirees in that circle.

He was a sensitive and gentle man with a lively sense of humor, known to sneak away a tear or two at the end of many a sentimental classic film.

He was a father of three upon whom he proudly bestowed nicknames. His daughter Dawn, his first child, was Gor-gee (short for Gorgeous George) his son Bill was Monk (short for monkey) and daughter Deanna, his youngest, was Pooch (beloved pet).

Fairly late on his career path, Bill found his way to Unbound, a nonprofit sponsorship organization headquartered in Kansas City that supports impoverished children and elders around the world. Bill loved working with Unbound, finding joy in the company of coworkers he admired and respected, contributing his knowledge and expertise to a cause greater than himself that he believed in wholeheartedly. As both a sponsor of children in the Unbound program and as an employee, Bill found the greatest pride of his professional life.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marilyn Diamond; children, Deanna, Dawn and her husband Matt, Bill and his wife Sarah; grandchildren, Max, Astrid, Lulu and Dylan; and furry companions Scooter and Sasha.

A Rosary will be said in his memory at 2:30pm on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Penwell Gabel's Olathe Chapel, with a visitation immediately following from 3:00pm until 5:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am on Monday, January 20 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, with burial at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe. After the graveside service, a light lunch will be provided at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Unbound either online, by clicking Here or by mail at Unbound, 1 Elmwood Ave. Kansas City, KS 66103.
