Wilda Ruth Worrell

May 7, 1932 — February 28, 2020

Wilda Ruth (Mallory) Worrell, 87, recently of Overland Park, KS, passed away on February 28, 2020 at Brookdale College Square, A Memory Care unit. She was born on May 7, 1932 to Lester and Ruby (Wingo) May in Edwards, MO.

Wilda grew up in Council Grove, KS where she graduated from high school in 1950. She also attended Emporia State University for one year and continued to take night college classes with her kids while they were in high school. Wilda married Perry C. Mallory, Jr. from 1952-1969 and had 5 children with him. She was a homemaker and worked at Herington Municipal hospital for 27 years (1970-1997) as a Nurse's Aide. She raised 5 children on her own and was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Wilda enjoyed living on the farm in White City for 20+ years after marrying Fred Worrell in 1990. She spent much of her life attending her children's sporting/school events, sewing for her children, quilting, crocheting, making pies for all the cowboys where she was known as the pie lady, and teaching her grandkids how to make home-made noodles.

Wilda and Fred loved the farm life. She loved the serenity of the quiet years after raising her children. Wilda loved to square dance and two step and continued to dance up until the last year of her life.

Wilda is survived by her loving children, Sharon Greenwood of Las Vegas, NV, Lenora Carpenter (Tim) of Olathe, KS, Pat Mallory of Kansas City, KS, Teresa Mallory of Topeka, KS, and Lisa Minnick of Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Amber Dickey, Tina Touchton, Dellon Reed, Megan Darnell, Jordan Carpenter, Tori Carpenter, Christian Minnick, Michael Mallory, Mallory Greenwood, and Macy Griffin; 3 great grand-children, Corbin, Liam and Emelie.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Perry C. Mallory Jr. and Fred Worrell; siblings, Donna Banka, Delores Siegrist, and Larry May as well as her parents.

The family will receive guests for a visitation from 9:30-10:30am on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Penwell Gabel's Olathe Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 10:30am. A luncheon will be held for family and friends afterwards at the home of Tim and Lenora Carpenter.

Wilda's body was donated at her request to The University of Kansas School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology.
