Wayne Francis Van Natta, age 75, died July 15, 2012 in Olathe, Kansas, following a short stay under hospice care. The son of Mary Adelaide (Romig) and Frank Van Natta, he was born on January 31, 1937 in Sedalia, MO and grew up in nearby Dresden. Wayne graduated in 1955 from Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, Missouri.
On November 25, 1959, he married Janice K. Grimes of Sedalia, and they lived most of their married life in Olathe, Kansas.
He served in the active Army and Reserves and made his career as a Chinook helicopter mechanic foreman at the Aviation Support Facility, ASF#37, Gardner, Kansas.
He was a lifetime member of the Methodist church, and belonged to the Masonic Lodge #65 in Gardner, Kansas.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 20, at 4:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob, Olathe, Kansas where the family will receive friends following the service.
A graveside service will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Sedalia, Missouri on Saturday, July 21 at 10:30am and family and friends are welcome.
He is survived by his wife of the home, son Scott Mark Van Natta and grandson Spencer Layne Van Natta of Lee's Summit, MO, Carolynn M Foland, daughter Peggy (Tim) Dunivan and two grand-daughters Casey Kimberlin and Caelin Megan Dunivan of Liberty, MO, his sister Diane (Sam) Mehan on Sedalia, MO, and a brother Terry (Linda) Van Natta of LaMonte, MO, two nephews and a large extended family and number of friends.
The family request memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, and may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, Pettis County Honor Flight, which escorts WWII veterans to view their new monument in Washington, DC, or to Crossroads Hospice.
