Walter Edward Hoeflicker, 86, of Olathe, KS passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Olathe Medical Center. He was born December 7, 1928 in Dover, Missouri, the son of Edward and Antonia (Breeve) Hoeflicker. On September 18, 1992 he married Linda Barker in Las Vegas.
Walt served in the US Army and Reserves as a Sergeant and saw active duty in the Korean War. Walt worked at Delco Battery as a foreman. He was Deputy Sheriff for Johnson County and a part of the Underwater Rescue and Recovery Unit. After he retired, he worked as security at AmeriStar Casino, Kansas City Power & Light and NAIA Headquarters. During retirement he also served on Ski Patrol and First Aid and CPR instructor at Snow Creek.
Walt was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Olathe Knights of Columbus and a 4th Degree Knight. He was a member of the American Legion Post #153 in Olathe. He served as treasurer of the Underwater Society of America, President of Mending Hearts Association, and on the Election Board for Johnson County. Walt was also a Scuba Instructor. He traveled around the world to scuba dive and snow ski.
Walt is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; one daughter Kathy and her husband Greg Graff; one step-son Kenny and his wife Laurie Turner; and one step-daughter Candi Curts. His grandchildren are Becky and her husband Jay Sweet, Chris Graff and fiancé Meredith, and Garrett Turner; two step-grandsons – John Courtney and Justin Curts; two great-grandsons – Camdon Sweet and Wyatt Graff and two step-great-grandchildren – Matthew and Jasmine Courtney. Walt is also survived by one sister Rosemarie and her husband Gene Robinson and one brother Jimmy Hoeflicker. Walt is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Pauline Heinz, and two brothers Paul Hoeflicker and Harold Hoeflicker.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
