Vivian C. Huxman, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2006, following a courageous six year battle with breast cancer. She was a resident of Leawood. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 pm, Monday, September 18, at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS. Memorial contributions may be given to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Greater Kansas City Affiliate, 1111 Main St., Kansas City, MO 64105.
Vivian was born November 29, 1920 in Warrensburg, MO. She was the only child of Oscar and Mary Hedlund of Warrensburg. She graduated with honors from Central Missouri State Teachers College with degrees in business and math. She earned a master's degree in guidance and counseling from UMKC. She worked as a buyer for Macy's after civil service at Whiteman AFB during WWII. After her children entered school, she was a guidance counselor at Ruskin and Hickman Hills High Schools.
She married Thomas H. Van Hoozer in 1941. He preceded her in death. She married Dale Huxman, a banker from Western Kansas, in 1974.
She is survived by her husband and two children: Thomas H. Van Hoozer, Jr. and his wife Nancy B. of Kansas City, and Joan V. Ehrhart and her husband Stephen J. of Ocala, FL. She has four grandchildren: Lisa and Thomas H. Van Hoozer III, and Ann V. and Jane C. Ehrhart. She is remembered by Dale's children: Daylene, Jolynn, Marilou, Leigh Ann and Jay D., 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her keen intellect, strong sense of humor, kindness and grace.
