Virginia Pat Wolf, a devoted disciple of Christ, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024, at the age of 98. Her life was a testament to unwavering faith, boundless love, and profound kindness.
Pat was born on March 14, 1926, in Holdenville, OK. At a young age, Pat moved with her daddy, Clair McNelly and mother, Jean Starke, to Kansas. She and her two younger sisters Billie and Peggy were raised in McPherson, KS. Pat was known for her adventurous spirit and loved to hunt and fish with her daddy. The family then moved to Lyons, KS where she graduated from Lyons High School in 1943.
Pat was united in marriage to Gailand Wolf on November 28, 1946 in Lyons, KS. They welcomed their only daughter, Gail, in 1950. Pat was a very devoted mother and Gail was the joy of her life. Pat and Gail later moved to Great Bend and Pat continued to live and work there until she moved to Olathe in 2008.
Throughout her life, Pat was deeply committed to her community. She was a very successful realtor in Great Bend and even won prestigious awards like Realtor Associate of the Year and Beta Sigma Phi and BPW Woman of the Year in 1980. Pat was very active and an avid golfer. She had a clown ministry where she would dress as a clown, "Sonshine," and visit hospitals to entertain and bring happiness to patients. She was also very creative and loved all crafts, especially painting. In 1954, the first "Punkin by Pat" was created. Every fall for 70 years, she painted pumpkins and ornaments and enjoyed giving them out to friends and family as gifts. After she moved to Olathe she became active as a volunteer at Life.Church Overland Park. Every Sunday she loved sitting by the entry door and welcoming those attending by greeting them with smiles, waves, and love.
Pat is preceded in death by her father Clair McNelly, mother Jean Starke, and sisters Billie Blakenship and Peggy Olivan. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Ernie Hicks, her beloved grandchildren, Gary (Shanna) Hicks, Brian Hicks, her cherished great-grandchildren, Grant, Ryan (Taylor), Annie Hicks, Cade, Crosby Fairbanks and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of Pat's life will be held at 10 a.m. on May 17, 2024, at Life.Church Overland Park, where she was a dedicated volunteer, known as "Miss Pat." She loved the Chiefs so feel free to dress casually and wear a Chief's shirt if you want. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Life.Church (9800 W. 135th St., Overland Park, KS 66221) or the Olathe Hospice House(15310 S Marion St., Olathe, KS 66061).
Though Pat may have departed from this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were touched by her love and faith. May she rest in eternal peace, cradled in the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
