Virginia (Ver Ploeg) Swank, 75, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Friday, December 4, 2020.
Virginia (Ginny) was born December 9, 1944 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Elton and Margaret (Van Zante) Ver Ploeg. Ginny was raised with her two brothers and a sister on a family farm in Pella, Iowa, where she attended a one-room school house for her elementary education and Pella High School for her general education. Following high school she attended Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, Missouri, for stewardess training; before being recruited to the Naval Intelligence Service at the Pentagon in Washington DC, as a civilian contractor. In 1964 she was united in marriage to Arthur Eugene Swank of Peoria, Iowa. Their early years brought them to Princeton, New Jersey, due to Art's job transfer; where they had their first daughter; before being transferred a second time to Olathe, Kansas, in 1969, where their family grew with a second daughter and son. Ginny enjoyed many hobbies and interests that included walking fields/creeks/rivers in search of Indian artifacts, painting, puzzling, and caring for others. But her biggest joy was spending time with her family. Ginny was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in America, and a member of PEO. She was best known for her unique way of making every person feel "special".
