Virginia Jones

Virginia Allene Jones, 90, of Lenexa, Kansas, began her new life with Christ in heaven on July 4, 2018 at Olathe Health Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas. She passed peacefully in her sleep with family attending. Mom was born on January 4, 1928 to David Edwin and Lilly Ellen Woodward in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a youngster, she moved with David and Lilly to Colorado City, Texas, where she graduated as valedictorian of her senior class.

Mom met R.D. Jones, freshly back from WWII, after a semester at North Texas Teachers' College, where she studied to be a teacher. After marrying Dad on September 1, 1946, she supported him in his music and education ministry in three churches in the Texas Panhandle. They retired from ministry in 1989 in Amarillo, Texas where they lived for 27 years. In 2016 they moved to Lenexa to be near family. Mom was a loving woman and supporting wife who will be missed by all who knew her.

Virginia is survived in this world by her husband, R.D. of Lenexa, KS; son Edwin L. Jones (Ann) of Carrollton, TX; son Curtis N. Jones (Sarah) of Lenexa, KS; grandsons David C. Jones (Elizabeth) of Fairbanks, AK; Brian D. Jones of Boston, MA; and Garret N. Jones (Lauren) of Alameda, CA; and granddaughter Ruschelle D. Gunlock (Cody) of Gardner, KS; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Lilly, father David, sisters Norma Thomas, Dorothy Larrabee, Margie Gramza, and brother Jimmy Woodward.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel in Olathe, KS. The funeral will be at 2:00 pm that day at the same location. Burial will follow immediately.

Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Amarillo, TX or First Baptist Church of Perryton, TX.
