Virginia Louise Gibson

Virginia Gibson was born in North Topeka Baptist Parsonage in Topeka, Kansas on April 3, 1922. She went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2022, just three months short of 100 years old.
She graduated from the original Topeka High School in 1940, the only high school there at the time. She attended West Side Baptist Church in Topeka throughout her formative years. After graduation she attended nursing college at James C. Stormont for three years, graduating in 1943 (which later merged with Christ Episcopal Hospital) becoming Stormont Vail.
After graduation she initially moved to KC and served at the old Menorah hospital for about six months as a private duty nurse. She then decided to enlist as an infant navel nurse during WW2. Making her one of only 11,000 navel nurses that served during the war.
This makes her a part of the greatest generation and a product of the great depression. That should help you to understand who she was, and why she was the way she was. "Don't waste, make the most of what you have, make your own clothes, go to war." She always knew what she wanted. She was set and determined in her ways and choices.
Virginia was the first CRNA when Shawnee Mission Medical opened and continued to work and serve as an anesthetist for 43 years until her retirement at age 65.
She married Clibborn Gibson in 1978. They were married for 42 years at his passing a few years ago. After retirement they moved to San Antonio first and then moved to Lufkin, Texas. She always loved this area though, and moved back to KS in in 2007.
Her favorite hobby was sewing. She was a terrific seamstress. She also loved animals, especially dogs.
Virginia Gibson was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Louise Weir; and her husband Clibborn Gibson by just a little over two years.
She is survived by her sister Peggy Hohendorf of Mission; three stepsons: Narron Gibson (Rachelle) of Overland Park; William "Bill" Gibson (Juanita) of Overland Park; and Phillip Gibson of Kansas City, KS. Eight grandchildren: Michael Gibson (Tracy), Joe Gibson (Anna), Eddy Gibson, Daniel Gibson (Nicolette), Timothy Gibson (Jaclyn), William "Billy" Jr, Teresa, Travis; and 16 Great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs.
