VIRGINIA EILEEN CHANEY
Virginia Eileen Chaney, 94, Olathe, KS, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Olathe Good Samaritan Center. The family suggests contributions to the church, Hospice of Olathe Medical Center, and Olathe Good Samaritan Center.
Eileen was born June 23, 1917 on a farm near Spring Hill, KS. She graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1934, taught at Bethel School two years prior to her marriage to Kelsey Chaney on May 30, 1937. Eileen was a talented musician and taught piano from 1940 – 2007. It was her love of teaching that would emerge as the primary focus of her career. Eileen's presence is audible to all in the musicians she trained and in the music they are making today. She was presented with the "Lifetime Achievement Award for Professional Dedication and Leadership" from OMT Association in May of 1999. Eileen was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for over 60 years, Olathe Hospital Auxiliary, and a charter member and Golden Girl of Chapter GR of PEO.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Harry B. Dickey and Minnie Neff Dickey, her husband; Kelsey A. Chaney, and siblings; J.B. Dickey, F. Lenore Reitz, Mary Susan Brooks, and Harriet Dawson.
She is survived by a daughter; Diane Colburn and son-in-law Gary Colburn, granddaughters; Tammy Colburn and fiance Rick Enochs, Mendy and husband Kevin Weakley, great-grandsons; Vaughn Grosshart and Mason Weakley; great-granddaughter; Addi Weakley.
