Virginia May (Wilson) Baty entered Heaven on May 23, 2020. She was born on February 27, 1936, in Lincoln, NE, the daughter of Harry F. and Margaret P. Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Barbara and her husband of 61 years, David H. Baty. She is survived by her older brother, Robert (Wanda) Wilson, sisters; Jennie (Daniel) Vanderpool and Jessie Sullivan, 5 children; Duane (Susan), Robert (Janet), Dale (Mary), Barbara Goodwin, and Opal (Frank) Barclay; 13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Virginia was saved at the age of 6 and lived her life for the Lord. She loved to write stories of memories that she and her family experienced.
The desire of her life was to see her family come to know and love her Lord Jesus Christ.
Virginia was the third child to Harry F. and Margaret P. Wilson. Her sister, Barbara, was 7 ½ years older and her brother Robert "Bob," was 6 ½ years older. When she was 9 years old, her mother had twin daughters, Jennie and Jessie. Virginia was often their caregiver after school since her mother sewed doll dresses in their home for Terri Lee Doll Company. That was also the time she learned to cook. She had a happy childhood.
Virginia met her future husband, David "Dave" H. Baty, at a Jack Schuller citywide revival crusade in February 1953. They sang in the choir together and Dave's sister, Grace, introduced them. Virginia had invited Grace to, "come over sometime." David was standing behind Grace and said, "Okay I'll do that." You could say the "rest is history." They quickly fell in love and were married on November 6, 1953. Following their marriage, they moved to Marion, Indiana, so David could attend the Wesleyan College there. In 1959 the family moved back to Lincoln, NE.
In no time, they became the parents of five children, three boys and two girls, Duane, Robert, Dale, Barbara and Opal. All of the children got married and have families of their own and she said; "sometimes it's hard to keep track of them all."
In 1977, they moved to Olathe, Kansas. In 1978, Virginia was able to get her high school diploma through the GED program. Her youngest daughter, Opal, also graduated from high school that year.
1978 was a health crisis for Virginia when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After her surgery and one year of chemotherapy, the doctors gave her a clean bill of health. She credits God with her healing and His touch on her life.
Virginia worked, as a babysitter, Laundromat attendant, secretary/receptionist for an insurance company, was a proofreader for a Title Ins. Co., and for ten years as an assistant editor for Nazarene Missions International. Following her "retirement," she worked part-time as a patient registration clerk for the Olathe Medical Center.
Virginia was an active member of College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, KS, serving as a volunteer church receptionist and belonged to the Olathe Christian Writer's Guild that met monthly at the church. Virginia has written stories, poetry, and devotionals for publication since 1983 and enjoyed reading, crocheting and playing the piano.
She wrote; "God has been good" and we affirm; "all the time!"
Post Script: Much of Virginia's obituary was written by her. It was recently updated and edited.
