V. David Hein, 80, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend passed away at his home in Lenexa, KS on February 1. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1932, Dave was a graduate of Western Hills High School and of The Ohio State University where he earned a degree in Veterinary medicine. Dave held a lifelong love for his alma mater and Ohio State football.
Upon his graduation from veterinary school, Dave met and married his beloved wife of 55 years, Dorothy Anderson. They had a lifelong love affair that can only be categorized as a true joining of spirits as God intended. Dave began a private animal practice back in Cincinnati. He opened three successful animal hospitals in the area and prided himself in the care of patients in his chosen field. A lifelong back problem forced him to leave his practice and move to Kansas City, where he embarked on a successful career in the pharmaceutical field. Dave held many senior level executive positions with a number of organizations where his contributions made a difference in the health care field.
Dave developed a love for travel at an early age and had an affinity for our country's National Parks. He found his solace in the splendors and beauty of the Western United States and passed this love on to his family. His love of sports and development of young people led him to be both a successful youth baseball coach and league commissioner. His leadership has been a guide for many young men who thank him to this day.
Most important to Dave was his faith and journey with Christ through this life. He was perpetually seeking to strengthen his faith and look for deeper meaning to enrich his life and those around him. He walked this earth with grace, dignity, and honesty. He was always ready for a vigorous and honest debate and loved challenging the status quo. He had a never ending thirst for finding out more about this earth and our place in it.
Dave leaves behind his wife of 55 years, the former Dorothy Anderson of Xenia, Ohio. Two loving sons and their wives. Jeff and Anne Hein of Olathe, Kansas; Todd and Maritte Hein from Windermere, Florida. His older brother and wife Stewart and Sue Hein of Mission Viejo, CA. And four grandchildren, Rachel, Greg, Matthew, and Alex Hein. He also had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins throughout the country.
Dave touched countless lives and his friends and loved ones are many. He felt blessed to have had such caring people around him and will take these loving memories with him as he now walks with Christ.
