Viola Mae Foster, 83, of Olathe, Kansas passed away at her home on Friday August 22, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, friends, and a truly caring team of hospice workers from the Olathe Medical Center.
Viola was born to Ira and Floy Wood on May 20, 1931 in Delia, Kansas. Viola along with her five sisters and one brother were raised in the Topeka area. On March 6, 1951 she married Bobby Foster and went on to raise her three children, Steven, Connie and Cathy.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ira and Floy Wood, Bobby Foster, sister Garnie Lutz, sister Margie Cashier, sister Sally Smith, and brother Steven Wood. She is survived by her sister Terry Perry, sister Eva Stout, sister in-law Betty Wood, and her children Steven Foster, daughter Connie (Danny) Calvert, and daughter Cathy Mahaffie.
As the wife of a career Navy man, they relocated many times during her life. As a family they lived in California for twelve of their years, at which time she worked as a photographer at Disneyland. She would relate stories as to how ,Walt Disney on occasions would come into the cafeteria, and seat down at their tables and have lunch with them.
Her family finally settled in Olathe, Kansas, where she spent the rest of her life. Viola spent 36 years working for Hisonic Electronics as a part of the management team. After retirement she spent the rest of her life caring for and helping to raise her eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren, along with countless other babies and toddlers she cared for her entire life. She will always be known as " Nana" to so many, and will be greatly missed by family, friends, and community.
