Vernon Orville Fischer, 83 of Olathe, KS, passed away from pancreatic cancer on December 9, 2018. He was born on July 23, 1935, to Orville and Sadie (Mueller) Fischer in Buffalo Lake, MN. Vern received a Bachelor of Science Degree, in Science and Education from Olivet Nazarene University where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Rosella (Scott) to whom he was married for 61 years. He received a Master of Education degree from Northern Illinois State University. He began his teaching career in Aurora, IL and later moved his family to Minneapolis, MN. Vern was a science teacher, coach and driver's education teacher for 38 years.
Upon his retirement in 1995, Vern and Rosella relocated to Olathe, Kansas, to be near grandchildren. Vern enjoyed competitive sports, motorcycle trips, golfing, woodworking, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
He was loved by many for his quick wit and humor, loving and warm heart, mind for inventions and compassion toward others. There is not enough space to list all the lives he impacted, and what he meant to those people. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Vern is survived by his loving wife, Rosella, sons Scott (Wendy), Jon (Shirley) and Shawn (Kendra) and daughter Renae (Phil). He had eight grandchildren Michelle, Krista, Austin, Scottie, Luke, Rachel, Andrew and Matthew and a great grandson Arden. Vern is also survived by brothers, Karlo (Susie) and Brian (Pat) and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held January 19, 2019, at 10:00 am at Nall Avenue Church of the Nazarene, Prairie Village, Kansas.
A memorial fund has been established to build a church in Ecuador to further Christ's kingdom through missions. Donations in Vern's memory at the link below or checks may be made to Nall Avenue Church of the Nazarene noting 'Vern Fischer Memorial'.
