Vernal Ray Gerber, of Olathe, KS passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 18, 2022, at the Olathe Health Hospice House. Vernal was born on November 18, 1953, in Jefferson City, Missouri to Christ and Erma (Austeel) Gerber. Vernal was a pilot for over 40 years beginning in Fort Leonard Wood, MO in 1979. He began flying in Kansas City, MO in March of 1984. He was Chief Pilot for Wolfe Automotive Group for 22 years until September of 2018. He was an instructor at Flight Safety in Wichita, KS for a short time before his retirement in 2020. Vernal enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, siblings, other family members, and friends.
Vernal is survived by his daughters Jessica (Sam) Speers and Lindsey (Colton) King, his son Brandon Gerber, grandchildren, Tyler, Isaac, and Levi, his sister Katie (Greg) Duckett, brother Jeff (Stacy) Gerber, his aunt Edith (John) Sundermeyer, sister-in-law Marty Branch, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Linda Gerber, his son Justin Gerber, his uncle Robert "Melvin" Austeel, his aunt Carolyn Jeffery, grandparents Robert and Pearl Austeel, and brother John Branch.
