Rev. Verdean Farrell Owens passed from this life into his eternal reward on February 24, 2018 in Olathe, Kansas. He was born on June 2, 1928 to Homer Owens, Sr., and Esther (Thornburg) Owens in Huntsville, Indiana. On August 29, 1947 he married Janice Naylor in Modoc, Indiana, she preceded him in death in 1988. On September 9, 1989 he married Marjorie (Colaw) Jantz in Olathe, Kansas, she survives.
Verdean graduated from Huntsville High School, Indiana Business College and the Church of the Nazarene course of study. He pastored for 44 years in the Church of the Nazarene in Indiana and Ohio. After retiring he served as a representative for the Nazarene Publishing House for 5 years. He continued to preach when asked and was still sharing in nursing homes until the last 2 or 3 of years of his life.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie Jantz Owens, sons Steve (Janie) Owens of Rabun Gap, Georgia and Dennis (Jody) Owens of Canton, Illinois, daughter Carolyn (Joel) Pickering of Olathe, Kansas, 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janice, sister Alice, and brother Homer, Jr.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Tuesday March 6 at 3:00 PM with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm, at College Church of the Nazarene and a graveside service will take place on Thursday March 8 at 11:00 AM, at Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester, Indiana. Cremation rights have already taken place.
