Vera M. Taylor, age 95, passed away on Friday, December 14th, 2018 at Aberdeen Village Nursing Home, Olathe,Kansas.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 18 from 1-2pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, immediately
followed by a graveside service at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Born on November 22,1923 in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Fredrick L. and Theresa (Kopf) Younger, Vera and her family moved from Nebraska to Stanley, Kansas in 1939, where she completed her final two years of high school, graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1941.
Soon after graduation she married Richard A. "Dick" Taylor, and they established their home in Stanley. During the course of their 48 year marriage, which was cut short by Dick's death in 1989, they became the parents of four children; Richard F. "Rick" Taylor of Lenexa, Gary A. Taylor of Paola, Linda M. Taylor who died in infancy, and Tommy M. Taylor of New York City.
Vera, was a long time member of the Stanley Community Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher and later as Sunday School Superintendent. She was very active in the community where over the course of her life she worked as a teller at the State Bank of Stanley, as School Secretary for Stanley Elementary and High School, and later as
Secretary to the Superintendent of Blue Valley High School.
She, along with her husband, served as Community Leaders for the Stanley Buccaneers 4-H Club, in its early years, and she was an ardent booster of both the Stanley and Blue Valley High School's Athletic departments, rarely if ever missing a game or event.
Vera will be remembered for the friendship she offered, her smile and laugh, and for always being ready to help someone in need.
She is survived by her son Rick and his wife Nancy, her son Gary and his wife Becky,and her son Tom, along with 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
