Vera Mae Nichols of Leawood, Kansas passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the age of 96. Vera was born January 12, 1928, in Greenwood County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Albert and Tammy (Bair) Stuber. Vera graduated from Climax High School. She met her future husband Wayne Carl Nichols in Eureka, Kansas. They were married on August 22, 1948. Wayne and Vera together were successful farmers/ranchers. They had four children together. Wayne and Vera moved to Kansas City in 1976 when Vera needed a lifesaving kidney transplant, giving her the gift of life for 48 more years. In Kansas City she spent many years helping her son Ken's business by managing the accounting aspects of the company.
Vera loved her flower gardens, sewing, reading, cooking, and taking care of her grandchildren. She was an outstanding seamstress. She had a passion for creating beautiful clothes for her grandchildren. Her true talent was quilting by hand for loved ones and friends. We will treasure the quilts she gifted to each of us over the years.
Vera and Wayne celebrated 75 years of marriage prior to Wayne's death in 2023. Vera was very proud of her family and loved spoiling her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and forever loved!
Vera is survived by her children: Nancy Wilson (Kenneth), Beverly Connell (John), Kenneth Nichols (Beth), and Donna Nichols. She leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents Albert and Tammy Stuber, siblings Dale, Loren, Raymond Stuber, Mary Martha Brown, Ada Day, Edgel Abney, and Bernadine Olson.
