VANESSA RAE WILCOX PUNZO
Age 35, passed away September 4, 2006, surrounded by her family, after a three year battle with breast cancer.
Vanessa was born September 8, 1970 in Kansas City, Missouri to Joyce and Don Wilcox. She graduated from De Soto High School in 1988, and went on to graduate from barber school in 1990. She married James Punzo on September 24, 2001. She was active in Heartland Ministries summer youth camps as a counselor and mentor for young girls, and attended Prairie Center Church of God in Olathe. She enjoyed reading, garage sales, Wal-Mart, and her favorite holiday, Halloween.
She is survived by her husband, James, of their home in Olathe, her children; Dalton, Wyatt, and Olivia, her mother, Joyce Wilcox of Olathe, Charles (Jeanette)Wilcox of Pekin, Illinois, Sonja (Chris) Toth of Olathe, and Rodney (Dawn) Wilcox of Olathe, her grandparents; Clayton and Dora Endecott, nieces Sarah, Elizabeth, Morgan, and Cooper Wilcox, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Don Wilcox, in 1988.
Her family wishes to thank Hospice of Olathe Medical Center for their compassionate care and friendship. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe, KS, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00p.m. on Friday, September 8, also in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment, Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Cancer Action, 10520 Barkley, Ste. 100, Overland Park, KS. 66212.
Vanessa was brave and courageous throughout her battle with cancer, and is admired by her family and friends. Her sense of humor and fun-loving spirit will be greatly missed.
