Tom Kevin Mulder

Tom Kevin Mulder, 63, of Olathe, passed away on June 28, 2019 at Menorah Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 25, 1956 to Edwin and Wanda (Muilenburg) Mulder in Hartley, Iowa. Tom spent his early years living in Spencer, Iowa and Des Moines, Iowa. He later moved to Hutchinson, Kansas where he completed high school. Tom attended the University of Kansas, where he majored in Fine Arts and minored in barley and hops studies.
On May 3rd, 1980, he married Jamie Sue Krehbiel in Moundridge, Kansas. Tom and Jamie began their married life in Hutchinson. They lived in Lawrence, Kansas while Jamie attended KU, later moving to Shawnee, Kansas. They finally settled in Olathe, Kansas where they have resided for the past 29 years.
Tom worked in the construction trades prior to joining the US Postal Service as a letter carrier. Tom spent 30 years with the Postal Service, enjoying two of them, before retiring in November of 2018. Tom never met a dog he trusted. He was always armed with pepper spray, and he wasn't afraid to use it.
Tom enjoyed painting, drawing and creating humorous cartoons for family, friends, and co-workers. Many a co-worker arrived at work to find themselves the subject of his special brand of humor. He also enjoyed fishing, playing softball and basketball, and spending time with his kids. He often helped coach their sports teams, in both official and unofficial capacities. Tom was a master of sports intimidation, sharing his methods with his children and giving them advice - "knees and elbows, use those knees and elbows".
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Jamie, son, Chance, daughter, Perri, sister, Luann Mulder, brother, Jerol (Phyllis) Mulder, sisters-in-law Sydney Mulder, Lori (Nick) Vontz and step-mother, Dee Mulder. In addition, Tom has 12 nieces and nephews, and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Mulder, mother, Wanda Mulder, brother William "Bill" Mulder, brother-in-law Bryce Krehbiel, and his son, Jackson "Jack" Mulder.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Black Bob Rd., Olathe, with visitation to follow.
