Thomas Hoyt Woolery

November 14, 1947 — November 29, 2022

Thomas Hoyt Woolery, 75, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away 11/29/2022. Tom was born 11/14/1947 to Thomas & Virginia Elrod Woolery. He graduated from East High School in Kansas City, MO in 1966 and graduated from Avila University in Kansas City, MO.

Tom worked over 40 years in the motion picture industry in theatrical exhibition. Tom began his career working with Stanley (Stan) Durwood, founder of America Multi Cinema (AMC). Stan left a lasting impression on Tom, and though Mr. Durwood passed away in 1999, Tom continued to follow his examples in character and leadership for the rest of his life. Tom OFTEN told stories of his AMC days and of Stan's leadership. Tom's career consisted almost entirely of management and upper management positions, and after nearly a decade at Dickinson Theatres, he retired as Vice President of Operations.

Tom loved the Kansas City Royals baseball team and enjoyed Kauffman stadium, where he spent much of his spare time. He also enjoyed going to see MANY movies. Tom was a GREAT Showman and Storyteller.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother David, and his sister Susan.

Tom is survived by his sister Cathy Struglia (Kent), 2 nieces Kim Stephens (Ryan), Nicole Omoregie, (Cliff) and 3 grand nieces Gabrielle & Inca Omoregie, Emery Ann Stephens and 1 great nephew Colin Omoregie and his dear friend Chris Cason who was always ready and willing to help Tom even though he had 4 children and a full time job. Dalton Hartgrove was another great friend of Tom's for many years.

Tom had said many years ago he did not want a funeral, but if possible, he would like to have a Celebration of Life at a local restaurant, as he liked to eat out often. When that date & time is decided by the family and Chris, we will let his family and friends know.

There will be a private burial at Southpoint Cemetery in Orrick, MO near his much loved grandparents on his mom's side to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to any one of the Kansas City Royals' Charities in Tom's name.
