Thomas Earl Carder, age 71 from Olathe, KS, passed away from a fall in his home in Olathe on Friday, January 19, 2024.
Thomas was born on January 15,1953 to Earl and Jean Carder in Kansas City, MO. He grew up in Kansas City and was a 1971 graduate of East High School. He graduated in1975 from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in Chemistry. He received a graduate degree in Science Education from UMKC in 1980. He taught at Nodaway Holt High School from 1977 to 1979. He then taught chemistry and physics in the Olathe School District from 1981 until his retirement in 2009.
He was united in marriage on July 17, 1982 to Lisa (Bergman) Carder (December 2012) in Marshall, MO. They had two children.
Tom was first and foremost an educator. Even after retirement he spent some of his free time substitute teaching in Olathe. He loved to ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles and was teaching himself photography. On summer evenings he would turn his classic record player up loud and jam to his favorite classic rock tunes.
He is survived by daughter Katie Carder and husband Jesse Volpert of Overland Park, KS; son James Carder of Lawrence, KS; sister Rhonda (Carder) Halliday and husband Bill of Houston, TX; in-laws Dan and Leah Kuhlman of Lecompton, KS; Jay and Julie Watson of Lee's Summit, MO; Roger and Janet Bergman of Holt's Summit, MO; and father-in-law Kenneth Bergman of Lee's Summit, MO; and nine nieces and nephews.
