Thomas "Tom" H. Bryant, II 76, of Olathe, passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by his family on December 19, 2017. He was born on May 29, 1941 to Thomas "Slim" and Mary Jane (Washburn) Bryant in Pittsburgh, PA.
Tom grew up in Dormont, Pennsylvania and always said how fortunate he was to grow up in the 50's when life was simpler and moved at a slower pace.
He spent most of his adult life in the movie theatre business, first in Pittsburgh then continuing when he moved to Kansas City 1996. In 2000, Tom left the movie theatre business and went to work in the Performing Arts Center at Johnson County Community College, where he retired in 2010.
After his retirement Tom began volunteering his time, first as a camera operator for KCPT-TV and then at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. His wife and children have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from those who worked with him at the hospital. He truly impacted the lives of so many.
Tom loved to travel and dreamed of one day living in Hawaii. He was an avid model railroader and had a large layout with all of the trains that he had as a child. He also had a professional grade movie theatre in his basement. He loved doing yardwork and "tinkering" in his workshop, naps with Gracie and riding in his convertible.
Tom will long be remembered for his kindness and compassion, his sense of humor, his love for children and animals. Tom rarely said "Good-bye". Instead, he would say, "See you in the movies".
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Sharon.
Children: Daughter Jenny (Ryan) Meyer of Gardner, Kansas; Son Thomas (Michelle) H. Bryant, III of Lakeway, Texas; Step-son Scott (Shannon) Herrington of Costa Mesa, California.
Grandchildren: Hendrix Bryant, Dylan Bryant, Sydney Herrington, Sutton Herrington, Ryan Meyer, Jr, Annaliece Meyer and Bob Meyer.
And his beloved cat, Gracie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Chewy.
The family will receive guests for a visitation at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Penwell Gabel in Olathe, KS. A memorial service will follow at 3:00pm.
