THERESA LYNN STEARNS
Theresa Lynn Stearns, 57, of Overland Park, KS, died in her home from pancreatic cancer on March 13, 2011, surrounded by loved ones.
Theresa (Teri) was born on Aug. 23, 1953, in Denver, Colo., to Larry and Sally Craig. The third of seven children, Teri was the peacemaker. She was raised in Southern California, and married Manuel Acosta in 1971. They lived in Huntington Beach, Calif., where Teri was a devoted mom, friend and neighbor. Many of her very happiest years were spent raising her two boys, Richard and Andrew.
In 1996, she married Wesley (Wes) Stearns and adopted his family in her heart, including his parents, children, siblings, nieces/nephews and granddaughter. Teri and Wes moved to Olathe, Kansas, in 2006. She adored the heartland, her neighbors and being just a few miles from her two sons and their families.
Teri held several paid positions throughout her life, but her true calling was nurturing others, especially children. She babysat her grandchildren, Hope and Gabriel, for several years and also operated a home daycare with her sister, Margaret.
Teri is preceded in death by her father, Larry Craig. She is survived by her husband, Wesley Stearns; son Richard Acosta (married to Kim Schworm); son Andrew Acosta (married to Natasha Zhdanyuk); grandchildren Hope, Gabriel and Maksim; sisters Jan (John), Christine (Rob), Robin (Bill) and Margaret (Bo); brothers Howard (Julie) and Wayne (Jenni); and many treasured cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or to help build a Hospice House at Olathe Medical Center. Visitation will be held Wed., March 16, 2011, 6-8 p.m., at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 Blackbob Rd., Olathe, KS, 913-768-6777.
