Terry Smith, 78, of Olathe, KS passed Tuesday March 8, 2022 at home. A memorial service for Terry will be 4PM Wednesday March 16th at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe Chapel followed by a visitation till 6PM.
Terry was born August 16, 1943 in Quincy, Illinois to William and Hester (Miller) Smith.
Terry enlisted in the US Army in 1962. He spent time in Fort Carson, CO, Fort Gordon, GA, and Germany. He returned to the states in 1964 where he was in Fort Chaffee, AR and finished his service in Fort Huachuca, AZ in 1967. His rank was a Specialist 4 with the title of Communication Center Specialist. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Badge (M-1) and Sharpshooter Badge (M-14).
Terry was a seasoned outdoorsman who enjoyed both fishing and hunting.
Terry and his wife, Ann, trained, bred and showed Weimaraner's. The pride of the pack, Buck and Mercy were American & Canadian champions.
As Terry got older and more reserved, he spent time reading, loving on his grandchildren and gardening.
Terry's son, Shane described his dad as 'not a typical gardener'. Any given year, Terry would cultivate anywhere from 70-80 tomato plants ranging from the smallest of small to the biggest of big!
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 36 years Ann Smith; their children Shane (Lesley), Bo and Jake. Grandchildren Charlie and Silas Smith. Children from a previous marriage, Tony (Sonya) and his favorite daughter, Diana (Quentin) Dane. And, his brothers Bill Owens-Smith (Tom Fleming) and Lou Smith.
