Ted D. Mars, 71, of Olathe, KS passed away Sunday March 31, 2013 at Olathe Medical Center. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Birth Mother Scholarship Fund, at American Adoptions. 9101 W. 110th St. Suite 200 Overland Park, KS 66210.
Ted was born December 6, 1941, in Lazbuddie, Texas, to Robert and Winnie Mars. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Billy, Bobby and Wayne.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan. He has one son, Scott Mars, of Olathe, Kansas, and 2 grandsons, Dylan Mars, Dentan Adams and a granddaughter, Ava Mars. He is survived by his sister, Deana Jones, of Fort Worth, Texas.
As a child, he was active in the Boy Scouts and helped his son become the youngest Eagle Scout at age 13 in Kansas. Ted was very proud to have been the Yo-Yo champion in a city wide tournament in Clovis, New Mexico.
After high school he was in the Air Force, then worked at the Fort Worth National Bank in the auditing department. He then become a manufacturers representative for Clausing Corporation in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for most of his working career. For the last several years he has volunteered at his son's agency, American Adoptions.
In 1969, Susan and Ted were fortunate enough to adopt a baby, Scott. He has been the joy of Ted's life as well as his three grandchildren. He was so proud that Scott grew up and started his own adoption agency.
Ted loved to hunt and fish and travel. He enjoyed riding his tractor on some of the land he owned. It reminded him of growing upon a farm in West Texas. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida for the past several years.
For the last ten years, he had bravely battled cancer. Unexpectedly, his heart began to fail and God mercifully took him home on Easter Sunday.
