Suzanne Lenahan, 79, a long-time resident of Lenexa, KS., died April 9, 2022 at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, KS.
Suzanne was born October 20, 1942 in Kansas City, MO., to James Richard Lenahan and Helen Pauline (Laughlin) Lenahan. Her early years were spent in DeSoto and Eudora, KS. She graduated from Eudora High School and Saint Mary College where she earned a degree in Home Economics Education. She later completed her master's degree at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS.
Suzanne began her teaching career at Easton High School, Easton, KS. She was a committed educator in the Kansas City Kansas School District retiring from J.C. Harmon High School where she taught for 25 years. She taught several classes in preparation for family living. She positively influenced the lives of many of her students and colleagues.
The oldest of six children, Suzanne assumed many responsibilities at an early age. She loved her close-knit family and the love, laughter and concern they shared with one another. Her brother and sisters were her best friends and she treasured time together. Her deep faith in God and her Catholic religion guided her life and supported her through many challenges.
She loved to crochet and made countless afghans and baby blankets as gifts for family and friends.
Suzanne is survived by her sisters Sister Mary Pat Lenahan, SCL, Leavenworth, KS, Therese Lenahan, Olathe, KS, Julie Cogley, Overland Park, KS, Joan Porter (Chris), Olathe, KS, cousin Nancy Andersen (Ken), Erie, PA, nieces Kimberly Kohn (Randy), Plano, TX, Christine Adams (Rick), Berthoud, CO, Carey Seetin (David), Lenexa, KS, nieces Rachel Porter, Ukiah, CA., Sarah Porter, Olathe, KS, Rebecca Porter, Olathe, KS and great-nieces and nephews. Her brother Michael and sister-in-law Anna predeceased her.
The family would like to thank the staff of Olathe Hospice House for the loving care provided to Suzanne and family members during her final days. Their gentle, compassionate support made this difficult time easier for all.
The family requests no flowers and asks that memorial donations be directed to the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, 4200 South 4th Street, Leavenworth, KS, 66048, or Olathe Hospice House, 15310 S. Marion Street, Olathe, KS, 66061.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on April 13, 2022 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS., 66062 with burial at 1:30pm at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8300 Quivira, Lenexa, KS.
