Susan O. Robbins

Susan Olson Robbins, 82, of Olathe, KS, passed away Tues. Feb. 7, 2023 at home. A visitation will be held 10-11am Thurs. Feb 23rd at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe Chapel followed by a memorial service at 11AM.

Susan was born July 27, 1940 in Galesville, WI to Henry and E. Hazel Olson, but grew up in the Norwegian community of Stoughton, WI. After graduation from high school, Susan received her registered nursing degree from the Swedish American Hospital School of Nursing in Rockford, Ill. She followed this with a graduate course in heart surgery at the DeBakey Heart Institute in Texas.

She met Ken Robbins in Rockford, Ill, and the two were married June 8, 1963, in Stoughton before settling in Detroit, MI. Susan took a leave from the nursing profession to raise the couple's sons, Brad and Jeff. However, once Jeff reached middle school, Susan took classes to get back up to speed and soon found herself working on the open heart surgical team at St. Joseph Health Center. She would eventually become an active member in the local chapter of the American Operating Room Nurses Association and served as head nurse of the open-heart team before retiring in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ken Robbins of the home and their sons Brad Robbins (Jill) and Jeff Robbins as well as her grandchildren Brock, Paige and Jackson. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Leffin (Jim).
