Steven H. Saggars, 68, of Olathe, KS passed away Sunday May 1, 2011 at the Olathe Medical Center. A rosary will be said Wednesday evening at 5:30. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Hospice House of Olathe Medical Center.
Steve was born Feb. 4, 1943 in Kendallville, IN to Harvey and Betty Saggars and was raised in Ligonier, IN. After high school, Steve enlisted in the Air Force and served four years including a stint during the Vietnam war as a military policeman in Newfoundland. Upon leaving the military, he served as a Kansas Highway patrol man. Steve then went to work as a bus driver for Trailways for 18 years. He finished his professional career working as a biomedical-technician at Olathe Medical Center for 18 years until he retired in 2005. Steve has been an Olathe resident for the past 38 years.
Steve was a loving man who never met a stranger. He was an avid outdoorsmen who enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was a HUGE Jayhawk supporter and attended many games throughout the years. Steve enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states. Steve was a great storyteller who loved sharing his many tales with friends and family. Most of all, Steve loved spending time with his family and made sure he played a major role in the life of his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Harvey J. Saggars. He is survived by his mother Betty J. Saggars, wife Dee M. Saggars, sons Eric S. Saggars (Melissa) and Aaron D. Saggars (Julie), daughter Kristin M. Dickinson (John), grandsons Luke E. and Grant H. Saggars, Jacob R. Dickinson, and grandaughters Paige A. and Ava J. Saggars.
