Steve Rainey

June 24, 1944 — June 19, 2020

Stephen "Papa" Lawrence Rainey went to his heavenly father on the morning of Friday, June 19th 2020.
Steve was born June 24th, 1944 to Keith "Pop" Rainey (D. April 1999) and Lois "Granny" Rainey (D.
November 2004). Steve was the youngest of three brothers: Kenneth "Ken" Rainey, who proceeded
Steve in death November 1994; and Dennis "Little D" Rainey. Steve first called Paola, KS home and
moved to Olathe, KS when he was a young boy. After completing high school in Olathe, Steve joined the
United States Air Force. Steve proudly served his country four years and returned home to Olathe
afterward. Shortly after returning home, Steve and Barbara began dating, two months later they were
engaged. Steve and Barbara were married in June of 1967, and have remained devoted to each other for
fifty-three years. Steve loved Barbara dearly, shown through his daily devotion to her up to his passing.
Steve's devotion to Barbara was rivaled only by his love for Jesus.

Steve has six children: Darren "Dagwood" Rainey, married to Lynn Rainey (Darren preceded Steve in
death January 2018); Amy "Hoffer" Trask, married to Scott "Scotty" Trask; Charidy "Boo" Matney,
married to Brian "B" Matney; Daniel "Thumper" Rainey, married to Stacy Rainey; Abigail "Dinker"
Jensen, married to Micah Jensen; Emily "Molly" Garcia, married to Ryan "Him" Garcia.

Steve has twelve grandchildren: Kerington "Fidget" (Darren and Lynn); Miranda "Mini-moo" and Jaden
"Clyde" (Amy and Scott); Gavin "Flipper" and Addie (Daniel and Stacy); Avalyn "Millie", Henley
"Beasley", Corra "Corra-Belle" (Abby and Micah); Faith "Fireball", Rowan "Willie", Noah "Oglby", Lucille
"Lucy-Belle" (Emily and Ryan).

Steve was a wonderful father and grandfather, he was always looking for a reason to spoil anyone who
came to visit. As you can see, Steve had nicknames for everyone, even pets! Steve would often rename
people he encountered depending on whichever trait he honed in on.

Steve was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and would revel in each game thoroughly with root beer and
chili. Steve would welcome anyone to watch with him as long as they would cheer and didn't mind the
volume blasting.

Steve was a man of many talents; he was a policeman, carpenter, truck driver, businessman, jack of all
trades, who could conquer most any task set before him. Steve could and would build almost anything
and often lent his expertise to each family's home projects.

Our Papa poured all of his energy and love into this family, he lived to make us happy and would devote
all he could muster to accomplishing that simple goal. His constant outpouring of unconditional love will
forever and always be his legacy.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Westside Family Church, Lenexa, KS, with visitation immediately following the service.
