Stella W. Wright

May 19, 1919 — April 29, 2014

STELLA WHITE WRIGHT, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away at the Kansas City Hospice House on April 29, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Stella was born in Ennis, Texas on May 19, 1919 to Clair and Vanny Morrison White, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Ennis High School and Trinity University of Texas. Stella was married on August 30, 1946 to James ("Jim") Logan Wright and shared 62 years with him before his passing in 2008. Stella and Jim had two children, James Logan Wright, Jr., who preceded them in death in 2007, and Elizabeth ("Libby") Wright Tyrrell. Jim was a store manager for Sears, and together with Stella and their young family lived in various cities in Texas until 1960 when they purchased a Ben Franklin Store in Wilburton, Oklahoma. They jointly owned and managed that store until their retirements in 1986. During retirement, they continued to live in Wilburton until they encountered health problems and moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 2004.

Stella was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilburton at which she served as an Elder, a Board Member and Treasurer of United Ministry of Eastern Oklahoma State College, Wilburton. She was also a member of American Association of University Women, the Thursday Bridge Club, and Wilburton Twentieth Century Club in which she served as President. She was a kind and caring person who always thought of others before herself. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and Robert White, and her sister, Virginia Cutlip. Stella is survived by her daughter, Libby, and her husband, Terry Tyrrell, of Overland Park, Kansas; her grandsons, David Tyrrell and his wife, Jo Tyrrell of Leawood, Kansas, and John Tyrrell of Overland Park, Kansas; and her great granddaughter, Abigail Tyrrell, of Leawood, Kansas; as well as nieces and nephews, and other family members. A private family memorial service will take place in Waxahachie, Texas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the wonderful caregivers who provided loving support and comfort to Stella in her later years.
