Sophie Rice Haken
Sophie Rice Haken, Hbg, PA, went Home to Glory April 26. 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Rev. William B. Haken, and her mother and father Michael and Maria Rice of Bristol, PA. Born May 10, 1921 in Oxford Valley, PA, she graduated from Langhorne Middletown High School, 1939, the Bible Institute of PA, and graduated from Philadelphia School of the Bible 1943.
She is survived by two twin sisters, Esther Gray and Emma Saxton of Bristol, PA, three children, daughter Ruth and spouse Peter Cowles of Olathe, KS, sons Paul and spouse Debra Haken of Hershey, and Bill and spouse Jeannette Haken of Harrisburg. In addition she had 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Sophie loved children and was one of the original founders of Harrisburg Christian School, served faithfully 40 years with her husband Bill directing the Mt. Lou San Bible Camp. For many years she taught a Ladies Bible Class at Brookfield Bible Church, and she was also a member of Capital Bible Church.
Funeral Services will be held Wed., May 2, 2012, 11:00 AM at Capital Bible Church. Visiting hours with the family will be 10 - 11 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers Sophie requested memorial contributions be made to Mt. Lou San Bible Camp, 2200 Blue Mt. Parkway, Hbg, PA 17112, and/or Capital Bible Church, 100 N. Hershey Rd, Hbg, PA. 17112.
