Sonja Reed

God called Sonja Lynn Reed, of Olathe, home on May 10th 2016 while surrounded by family. She was born on May 29th 1954 to Delbert and Dixie (Sample) Milbourn in Redwood City, CA. She grew up in St. Joseph, MO and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1972. She met the love of her life Bruce in 1975, they married in '77 at the Community Baptist Church in St. Joseph, MO. She worked at Guy's Food as a clerk from 78-81. In 1982 she started working for Heartland West as a billing and admitting clerk. She was blessed with her only child, Jason, on January 6th 1984. They moved to Olathe, KS in 1989 where she volunteered a lot of her time at Brougham Elementary School. She cherished every moment she got mentoring not only her son but other children. She instilled that loving the Lord was the most important thing in life and she insisted that family come first and she always put others before herself. She loved all of the holidays and went all out decorating for all of them. Family gatherings were her favorite and she loved to bring food and desserts. She had a knack for creating crafts and decorations. She would do an annual cookie spread every Christmas that many people were able to enjoy. She welcomed her first grandson, Elijah, on September 29th 2011 and her granddaughter, Olivia, on May 15th 2015. They were the light of her life and she enjoyed being able to care for them during the day while her son and daughter-in-law worked. She'll be greatly missed by many family and friends. She loved so many whole heartedly and spread the love of God to all.

Sonja is survived by father Delbert Milbourn, mother Dixie, her loving husband Bruce, son Jason, daughter-in-law Amelia, grandson Elijah, granddaughter Olivia, sister Brenda Beck (Doug), sister Shela Gibson (Jason Ray) and brother Myron Milbourn (Janice). She was also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her grandfather Harry Sample and grandmother Clara, grandfather Jessie Milbourn and Rose and sister Glenda Milbourn.

The family will receive guests for a celebration of life on Saturday May 14th, 2016 from 5:00 - 7:00pm at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to either the American Heart Association or to the National Kidney Foundation.
