Simon Wilmot

Simon Scott Wilmot, 23, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020. He was born on June 29, 1997 in Comanesti, Romania and came home to Ken and Rhondi Wilmot in July 2000, in Eldridge, Iowa.
Simon was excited to attend kindergarten in Burlington, Iowa, then moved to Marion, Iowa, where he was an active elementary and middle-school student at St. Joseph Catholic School. He attended Springfield Catholic High School his freshman year and graduated from Olathe North High School in May 2016. Simon earned his A.A. degree from Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, Kansas in December 2018. Simon's friendly personality landed him various job opportunities in the restaurant industry throughout high school and college. He enjoyed the work and many friendships made there, including Applebees, Chuy's Tex-Mex, and Papa Murphy's, where he was assistant manager. His friends have shared many stories of how Simon made others feel included and appreciated for who they are, and how he was a positive influence in their lives.
Simon also enjoyed traveling with his family and visiting the Lake of the Ozarks and the beach at Galveston. He had a great love for dogs of all kinds and sizes and spending time with friends.
Simon is survived by his mom, Rhondi Wilmot, Olathe, Kansas; his dad, Ken (Brittany) Wilmot, Springfield, Missouri; and his sister, Staci Wilmot, at home in Olathe. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Melvin and Elaine Buls, Marshalltown, Iowa; and his paternal grandfather, Keith Wilmot, Marshalltown, Iowa. He is also survived by his many aunts and uncles, Cindy (Brian) Keefe, Olathe, Kansas; Greg (Karen) Buls, Grapevine, Texas; Chris (Mallory Kern) Buls, Marshalltown, Iowa; and Lois (Norm) Wade, Marshalltown, Iowa. He leaves his cousins, Cody (Amber) Wade, Sara (Chad) Sump, Aidan (Mariah Kelly) Keefe, Connor (Gera Wilson) Keefe, Karina Buls and Erik Buls, and by his loving dog, Potato.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Carrie Joan Wilmot.
The family will receive guests for visitations from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, August 21, 2020, and again from 1:00-3:00pm on Saturday, August 22nd, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe, Kansas. Saturday's visitation will be followed by a brief service at 3:00pm.
