Shirley Lee Howard Wiedenhoeft, 74, of Olathe, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Villa St. Francis nursing home.
Shirley was born on June 18, 1943 to the late Paul E. Howard and Doris Burkhart Theis in Independence, MO. She lived there with her parents and 2 sisters, Pauline and Barbara. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1961. Shirley had a bright smile and a way with people which served well with her as she waitressed in hotels on the plaza, ran Jerry's Steak House in Raytown for a few years, owned and operated Blue Ribbon portrait studio and later gained her position as Deli Manager for Ball's Price Chopper, where she retired in the late 90's.
Shirley had two children, Timothy E. Matney and Jerry W. Torello Jr. She married the love of her life, James Virgil Wiedenhoeft, in 1980. Together they took pride in their business as well as their home, where they hosted and enjoyed the company of many family gatherings. Often you would find them gardening, making home improvements and in later years working on birdhouses until Jim's passing in 2011. Shirley was a talented artist with a paint brush and had an eye for home décor. She loved her family and often boasted about them to anyone who'd listen.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband James V. Wiedenhoeft; her devoted son, Jerry W. Torello Jr.; step daughter Candace Wiedenhoeft; and sister Barbara Jean McArthur.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by sisters, Pauline Fox of Meade, KS and Kathy Overhoff (Henry) of Ozark, MO; brother, Mark Theis of Olathe, KS; her son, Timothy E. Matney of Grandview, MO; grandchildren, Timothy Dillon Howard Matney (Emily) of Olathe, Vannessa Rockers (Michael) of Olathe and Joseph Landis of Shawnee, KS; along with 7 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Emmett, Truett Matney, Teagan, Brennigan Jestice, Dalton, and Carson Rockers, all of Olathe, KS. There will always be a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews as she held them closely and loved them all so dearly.
Services will be held Saturday morning August 5, 2017 at 11:00 am at the First Christian Church of Olathe, 200 E. Loula Street, Olathe, KS 66061.
