Shirley was born April 15, 1933, in Nutley, NJ, the eldest of three daughters, to William and Mabel Peters. Shirley grew up and spent her school years in Nutley, NJ, where she also attended Brookdale Baptist Church. It was at Brookdale Baptist Church that Shirley became a Christian, as well as developed a love of the piano. By the time Shirley graduated from high school, she was an accomplished pianist. Her father offered to either pay for her college education or buy her a baby grand piano. Shirley chose a college education, and moved to Greenville, SC, to attend Bob Jones University. Shirley graduated with a master's degree in piano with a minor in French language studies. After graduation, Shirley joined the faculty of the university, where she taught piano for over a decade.
Shirley met and married her beloved husband, Robert L. Reymond, at Bob Jones University while he was studying to become a minister. They were part of a quartet that traveled around the country representing the university. Shirley accompanied the quartet on the piano, and Bob sang bass. Bob only had to propose to her four or five times before she agreed.
Shirley and Bob were married on August 17, 1957, and started a wonderful life together that spanned the next 56 years until his death in September, 2013.
In 1968, Shirley and Bob moved from SC to St. Louis, MO, with their three children, where Bob taught at Covenant Theological Seminary, and a pastored various area churches. Shirley was a loving wife, supporting Bob in his ministries by serving as organist, pianist, and choir director. Over the course of the years, Shirley also taught French at a local Christian high school, was a bookkeeper for a local hospital, and taught private piano lessons in her home.
Shirley and Bob moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, in the late 1980s, when Bob was called to Knox Theological Seminary and served as a professor for the next 20-plus years. Shirley worked in the music department at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church.
Following his retirement in 2011, Shirley and Bob moved to Aberdeen Village in Olathe, KS.
In addition to her musical talents, Shirley was an accomplished quilter. She taught quilting classes for seminary wives while she lived in Florida. She enjoyed knitting, was a wonderful seamstress, and enjoyed needlepoint.
Shirley was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three children, Stephanie Morrow, Robert Reymond, Jr., and Jeffrey Reymond and her seven grandchildren.
