Shirley J. Wolfe

June 6, 1930 — March 21, 2016

Shirley June Wolfe (Snyder) 85, of Olathe Kansas passed away Monday evening March 21, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center. Her daughter and grandson were at her side. She will be dearly missed.

Shirley was born June 6, 1930 in Loup City Nebraska to Bert E. Snyder and Lena Snyder(Larson). They made their home in Loup City Nebraska. Her father worked for Peter Kewit Construction Company of Omaha Nebraska. Her mother was a homemaker.
In June of 1947 Calvin E. Mays married Shirley June Snyder. Calvin and Shirley had a son Michael E. Mays. On September 9, 1950 Calvin and Shirley were divorced.

On May 8, 1960 Rolan Chester (Chet) Wolfe married Shirley June Mays at the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney Nebraska. Chet and Shirley had three children together, Kathy Jo Wolfe, Cynthia Sue Wolfe and John Marvin Wolfe.

Chet and Shirley moved to Kansas City where Shirley worked for many years at the Jones Store before leaving to work at Rangel Distributing as a book keeper.

Shirley enjoyed sewing, playing cards, Bingo, crafts and traveling. For years you could find Chet working the Wednesday and Friday night Bingo games at the local VFW while Shirley played Bingo with her friends. Every year Shirley looked forward to taking trips to Nebraska to play cards with her sisters Bonnie and Margie and the other "Card Girls". Spite and Malice was one of her favorite card games. She also enjoyed going to the casino with her longtime friends Joe and Jose Rangel.

After Shirley retired from Rangel Distributing she moved from her home in Overland Park, Kansas to College Way Village in Olathe Kansas. During her time at The Village, Shirley was a member of The Red Hat society, an international social organization for women. Shirley also enjoyed her weekly coffee socials with the other residents from The Village. Shirley met several wonderful ladies who lived there and they became very good friends. Especially Mary who was Shirley's "partner in crime".

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband Chet Wolfe, her sisters Beulah Snyder, Margie Herring, and Bonnie Jarnigan, and infant daughter Kathy Jo Wolfe.
She is survived by her son Michael E. Mays Sr. and his wife Joann Mays (Smith) of Overland Park Kansas; her grandson Michael Mays Jr. and his wife Heather Mays (Vanderwerf) of Overland Park Kansas; her grandson Shawn Mays of Overland Park Kansas; her great-grandsons, Jared Lee Mays and Dakota Mays; her daughter Cynthia Jack (Wolfe) and her husband Mark L. Jack of Olathe Kansas; her grandsons Aaron Jack and Garrett Jack; and her son John Marvin Wolfe of Stover Missouri.

Shirley will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Hoolie-Hoolie time and playing her favorite card games, Canasta and Spite and Malice, will not be the same without her!
