Shirley J. Day Stephens, age 79, passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas, Friday, July 17, 2015.
She was born in Paola, Kansas, October 1, 1935, the daughter of Damon Ricketts and Rozella Brady.
Shirley was united in marriage to Wayland Day on January 11, 1953. They had two daughters, Patty and Rita. She later married Donald Stephens on December 10, 1977.
Shirley was a homemaker for many years, worked at a coat factory in Paola, was a dietician at Medical Lodge in Spring Hill and retired from Mast Advertising in 1995.
Shirley was very involved with Hillsdale Methodist Church. She made many quilts, rag rugs and food and donated to Methodist Ladies Bazaar. She enjoyed roller skating with her family and spent many years attending bluegrass festivals with Don. Her home was always open to friends, family and neighbors. Her generosity always shined bright, cooking meals for all who visited.
She is survived by her husband, Don, of the home, daughter Patty (Francis) Schmitendorf of Leavenworth, daughter Rita (Charlie) Hercules of Olathe, Donald Stephens, Jr. of Lawrence and Paul (Becky) Stephens of Desoto. She has eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Irma Meadows of Warner, New Hampshire, brother Damon (Floyce)Ricketts of Santa Fe, Texas and sister Cheri (Mike) Nelson of Vienna, MO.
