SHERRON "SHERRI" F. MELIN
Sherron "Sherri" F. Melin, 62, of Olathe, Kan., passed away November 16,
2006 in Olathe. She learned in January of her lung cancer and fought a
difficult battle, refusing to give up. She is survived by her mother, Elaine
G. Poole, her husband Carlyle and her sons Eric and Scott, his wife Monica
and her daughter Beth. Her beloved grandchildren are Hailey, Ethan and
Katie. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph W. Poole and brother
Joseph W. Poole II. Born in Flushing, NY, on July 13, 1944, she was raised
in New York, Des Plaines, Ill., and Minnetonka, Minn. She graduated from the
University of North Dakota in 1966 and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
Sherri and Carl were happily married for over 38 years, and were known to
"cut a rug" every now and then. Sherri was a teacher for 23 years, including
19 years teaching her wonderful "cherubs and twits"- the fifth graders at
Fairview Elementary School in the Olathe School District. Although her
students might have thought she was a little tough on their first day, they
soon came to know that she was really a softie at heart. She loved fishing
and landed many huge walleye and northern pike (and some not so huge) on her
annual trips to Canada with her husband. As the proprietor of Aunt Mae's
Attic, she spent many weekends buying and selling antiques with her mother
Elaine. Sherri touched everybody with her easy smile and offbeat sense of
humor.
The memorial service will be held at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275
S. Blackbob Road in Olathe, on Sunday, November 19, at 2 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be given to the Olathe School District- Sherri Melin
