Sharon Lynn Thompson

November 12, 1967 — July 1, 2024

Sharon Lynn Thompson (56) of Olathe, KS, passed away peacefully with family by her side on July 1st at KU Medical Center.

Sharon was born on November 12th, 1967 to Terry and Carolyn Silvius at Shawnee Mission Hospital. Sharon grew up in Wellsville, KS, and loved to swim, ride her bike, and read. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1986. She attended William Jewell College and earned her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training before pursuing her Masters of Science in Education from the University of Kansas. All the while she was working at Johnson County Community College as an assistant athletic trainer where she traveled frequently with the baseball team.

Sharon spent 25 years with JCCC before retiring to raise her family and dedicate herself to her Church and community. Sharon loved spending time helping with her boy’s activities and started the booster club for Conner and Collin during their time with Olathe Northwest Speech and Debate. Sharon also spent numerous years as the event planner for Community for Coaches where she helped grow their ministry.

Sharon met Kenton Thompson at an athletic training convention in Kansas City in 1993 where they quickly fell in love and married in 1994. They were blessed with their first son Conner in 1997 and their second son Collin in 1999. Sharon built a beautiful, close-knit family whom she loved so dearly until her last day. As you well know, friendships have always been important to Sharon. She maintained numerous friendships from high school, college, and every chapter along the way. Sharon was a loyal friend and loved her tribe of people fiercely. Sharon was a selfless wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, who always looked for ways to serve others. She had a special ability to make you feel loved and special and always seemed to know what you needed to make even your hardest day better.

Sharon has always been a faithful Christian and attended church from a young age. When Sharon and Kenton moved into their current home, they found their faith home at Christ Community Church where they have been members for 17 years and continue to faithfully serve the Church through their generosity. They foster fellowship by frequently hosting events at their home and supporting the pastors, staff, and residents. Sharon was also a mentor mom and leader in the church’s MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) program. Throughout the years, Sharon relied on God for all situations and throughout her health issues over the past few years, she relied on the acronym FROG - Fully Rely On God. Despite the numerous health setbacks, you would frequently hear Sharon saying “God’s Got This!”

Sharon was blessed with many talents and hobbies. Recently, she loved her time with her weekly bowling league. Not one to sit idle, Sharon always had her hands busy with a project- anything from diamond dotting, crocheting, scrapbooking, you are sure to find her many projects decorating their home. Sharon not only loved to decorate with her projects, she loved holidays, and no matter how big or small, you would find her home brightly adorned for the season! Sharon loved to travel and took care to plan amazing trips for her family and friends to enjoy! If you have ever been to an event at the Thompsons, you know what an incredible host Sharon was. She loved hosting friends at the pool and many favorite memories were made around the firepit and pool. Sharon also found joy in watching sports and cheering on her favorite teams year round.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Kenton, who loved and cared for Sharon deeply until the end; her son Conner, 27 and girlfriend Gillian and her son Collin, 24 and wife Cameron; her parents, Terry and Carolyn Silvius of Wellsville, KS; her sister, Cynthia (Steve) Deters and their children Trevor, Justin and Ashley of Abilene, KS; her brother, Dale (Christina) Silvius and Kevin and Hunter of Leawood, KS; her loving tribe of friends and their family dogs, Tucker, Penny, and Petey. Sharon was preceded in death by aunts and uncles.

Memorial services are Tuesday, July 9th at 4:00 pm at Christ Community Church at 20600 W. 119th St, Olathe, KS 66061. There will be a reception from 5:00pm-6:30pm following the service.

Sharon would love to see you in your favorite colors to celebrate and remember her. Her family would love to hear your many stories and memories of Sharon on her caring bridge website below. Should you feel inclined, we are asking that any flowers be sent directly to the church at the address above.

Sharon’s generosity shaped every part of her life. She had a passion for helping others with similar bone marrow illnesses afford the treatment they need. Due to the specific nature of illness, frequent travel is required for those who do not live near a specialized facility. We have set up a memorial fund to help assist other patients in need. The loss of Sharon weighs heavy on all of our hearts, to know Sharon is to love her, and she will be dearly missed by all. As we grieve together, she would want you to Fully Rely On God in all things.
