Scott Shorten

December 19, 1983 — January 7, 2025

Scott Shorten, a beloved father, husband, son, friend, and physician, passed away on January 7, 2025, at the age of 41. Scott was known for his kind and welcoming nature, curious intellect, and adventurous spirit.

Scott valued his family above all else. Scott’s wife Kelly and their four, cherished children have been blessed by countless memories of Scott’s playfulness and devotion and will forever remember Scott as a kind, present, and loving husband and father.

Scott was an avid outdoorsman who welcomed every opportunity to hike, fish, bike, and enjoy the beauty and challenge of nature. He carved out time each year to retreat to the Canadian wilderness, one of his most treasured traditions since he was 10 years old.

Scott was also deeply committed to his work as a neurologist at North Kansas City Hospital. Colleagues and patients alike were impacted by his compassion and professionalism. His careful attention to the well-being of others was a testament to his character, representing the very best of what it means to be a healer.

In addition to his wife and children, Scott is survived by his mother, Deborah Stevens, and his brother, Andrew Shorten, who will greatly miss his warmth and presence in their lives. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Shorten, whose memory remained close to Scott’s heart throughout his life.

As we remember Scott, we celebrate and grieve the loss of a remarkable man. Scott impacted everyone around him and inspired many to live fully. His devotion to his loved ones, commitment to excellence, and his playful and engaging approach to life are the hallmarks of his legacy. He will be forever remembered and loved dearly.
