Scott Joseph Brunk, 48, of Olathe, Kansas, died at his home surrounded by his wife and children on Sept. 15, 2018, after a courageous four-year battle with colon cancer. A beloved father of five, he will be deeply missed by his large, loving family, circle of friends and his family of faith at Journey Bible Church.
Scott was born on Feb. 4, 1970, to Joseph Gary and Judith Lois Brunk, and he grew up in the countryside south of St. Louis with eight sisters. Home-schooled by his parents, Scott excelled at academics and practical life skills alike. He graduated from Jefferson Junior College at the age of 18, and the University of Missouri-Rolla at 23 (BS-Engineering, 1993). He soon joined the team at Garmin International, where he worked as a software engineer for 21 years, earning a lifetime achievement award listing his many accomplishments in developing tools that have helped millions to find their way in this world.
On July 6, 2013, he married Anna, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage, full of love and passionately living. They resided with their children in Olathe, Kansas.
He was a passionate follower of Christ and a member of Journey Bible Church in Olathe. He will always be remembered for his servant heart, as a selfless, adored husband, and a man of Christ-centered love who worked hard to be a good example and to grow in all dimensions.
Scott enjoyed being a husband and father, spending time with family and friends, playing games, traveling and lending a helping hand to those in need. He was an excellent problem-solver and a brilliant programmer and engineer, and he loved putting his many skills and his ample collection of tools at the service of those he cared for. He was a craftsman who worked with wood and other materials to create beautiful and useful gifts to share with those he loved. The only son in a family of nine children, he was a loving brother to his eight sisters. He was above all a man of deep faith and integrity who worked hard to leave a strong Christian legacy for his family.
Scott is survived by his loving wife, Anna; the children they cherished, Devin Brunk and his wife Alexis and their two daughters, Emily and Jennifer, of Eudora, Kansas; Derek Brunk, Dylan Brunk, Treyton DesLauriers, and Adelayde DesLauriers. He is also survived by his mother, Judith Lois Brunk; his sisters, Tracy Barnett, Toni Rahman, Michele Jones and husband John, Trina Brunk, Tami Brunk, Tanya Oliphant and husband Joseph, Aany Tazmin and husband Korey, and Tasha Huesca; his former wife and the mother of his three older children, Cheryl Nice; and more than 40 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Gary Brunk.
