Samuel "Sam" Austin Stitt, 85, of Lyndon, KS, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Anthology of Olathe.
He was born October 7, 1938, the son of Cora (Leonard) Stitt and Ludell Stitt. He graduated from Lyndon High School in 1957.
Sam was an athlete in high school where he played baseball and ran track. His love for sports continued into adulthood where he pitched fast-pitch softball. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his classic cars.
He was also a veteran of the US Army. Sam worked as an engineer for the Rock Island Railroad, the KATY Railroad, and the Union Pacific Railroad, from which he retired.
He married Wilma "Billie" Bright on March 6, 1965.
He is survived by their son, Rod Stitt (Jennifer) and grandchildren Molly Stitt and Dylan Stitt, whom he loved with all his heart. He is also survived by his brother, Willis Stitt (Neusa) and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cora Stitt and Ludell Stitt, his sister Ludella Mae "Susie" McCann, and Wilma "Billie" Stitt.
A graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00am at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka, KS.
