Ruth Ann Flentgen (nee Klemp) fell asleep in Jesus on February 15, 2014 at her home in Olathe after a brief illness. She was born on May 6, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio to Rev. Oscar and Viola Klemp. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church of Parma, Ohio. She attended Lutheran schools and graduated from Concordia Teachers' College (now Concordia University-Chicago) in River Forest, Illinois in 1962. Following graduation she taught at Grace Lutheran School in Cincinnati, Ohio until she was united in marriage with Rev. Ronald Flentgen on August 1, 1964. She was a devoted mother and pastor's wife throughout the 49 years of their marriage. She also served for over 20 years as a volunteer at Olathe Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, Ronald, their three children: Anne Shepard and her husband, Bradley Shepard, of Winchester, VA; Jonathan Flentgen of Olathe; Mary Page and her husband David Page of Overland Park; her granddaughter, Katelyn Page; two sisters, Althea Roth and her husband Rev. Delbert Roth; Carol Steinbach and her husband Arlon Steinbach; and six nieces and nephews.
Ruth was truly an artist, musician, a profound thinker and theologian, and one who was deeply aware of the beauties of God's world, which she especially demonstrated in her work with flowers and growing things, as well as in her paintings and many creative projects. Her family was her life, and her living Lord Jesus was her eternal hope.
Memorial gifts may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church of Mission and Shawnee, KS.
