Russell Wiglesworth

November 19, 1929 — November 24, 2014

Russell Allen "Russ" Wiglesworth, 85, Olathe KS, died Monday, November 24, 2014 of complications of Alzheimer's disease.

He is survived by his four sons: Steve Smith (Cindy), David Wiglesworth, Russ Wiglesworth (Carol) and Jerry Wiglesworth (Joyce), six grandchildren: Lee (Megan) Wiglesworth, Kristina (Brian) Anderson , Mackenzie Wiglesworth, Luke (Kioni) Wiglesworth, Ashley Wiglesworth and Natalie Wiglesworth. He also leaves six great-grandchildren: Stephanie and Mikayla Wiglesworth, Vivienne Murphy and Christian Anderson, Levi and Eli Wiglesworth. He was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne and a still-born daughter, Yvette; his parents and three siblings.

Russ was born November 19, 1929 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He grew up in Portland where he met and married Yvonne Castonguay on June 3, 1956. They lived for many years in Tacoma and moved to Olathe in 1978.

Russ worked for more than 29 years in financial services before joining Capitol Federal in 1981. There, he was credited with establishing their consumer lending department and stimulating growth in sales at all their branches. He retired in 1994.

Always a believer in God, he came to know Christ later in life--after many years of the prayers of a faithful wife. He lived out the remainder of his life as a testimony to the love and grace of his Savior.

As a member of College Church of the Nazarene for over twenty years Russ touched many lives through his service: he was an usher; with Yvonne, a greeter; active in Stephen Ministries and as a volunteer for the Olathe Police Department's program for calling and checking on shut-ins. After retirement, he was also active in prison ministries and Meals-on-Wheels.

He had a love of nature and the outdoors. He was committed to health and fitness--swimming and working out with weights up until the end of his life.

He leaves a legacy of love, faith, fatherhood and Godly wisdom. His family will miss him deeply.

Memorial contributions may be given to Stephen Ministries in care of College Church.
